General Dentistry
General dentists are the first line of dentists that any given patient would book an appointment with for any dental concerns or needs. They are usually a patient’s family dentist and the patient would ideally be visiting their office on a regular basis for checkups and cleanings.
General dentists perform a wide variety of treatment from all fields of dentistry. When a general dentist feels a case is too complicated for their knowledge, skill level, equipment, etc. they will then refer the patient to a specialist who focuses their treatment on that specific area of dentistry.
At Ramirez Dentistry, we provide every patient with professional, friendly and exceptional care as we examine their dental health. Whether your dental needs are just a cleaning and dental exam or a complex restoration or dentures, we ensure the utmost care and precision for each procedure and service. Our dental professionals are dedicated to providing comprehensive, professional dental care for all dental services. You can trust that you’re in good hands at Ramirez Dentistry.
Fillings
When a patient has a cavity, the decayed tooth structure needs to be removed and replaced with a restorative material. Amalgam filling material is still used today but is mostly considered outdated since most patients find them unsightly and because they contain mercury. Although the mercury in amalgam fillings are not harmful to patients, many still prefer to avoid them since resin composite fillings are now available.
At our office we prefer to use resin composite fillings as they are as effective and come in a variety of shades so that the dentist can match the patient’s tooth colour. Resin composite is a restorative material that is directly bonded to the tooth, they are the “white fillings” that are much more commonly used in modern dentistry.

Inlays and Onlays
When damage to a tooth is too extensive, it cannot always be treated with a filling, yet is not severe enough to require a full-coverage crown. An inlay or onlay is the most effective solution in this case. Also known as “indirect” fillings, inlays and onlays are fabricated often in a dental laboratory and bonded to the damaged tooth by a dental professional. An inlay is when the indirect filling fits within the cusps of the molar or premolar teeth. The procedure itself for both an inlay and onlay are exactly the same. Both indirect fillings are extremely durable and long-lasting to ensure restoration lasts for years to come.

Crowns
Crowns are indicated in a number of different situations, usually when a tooth is severely decayed or after root canal treatment to prevent tooth fracture. Crowns can be made out of a variety of materials including metal, gold and most commonly, porcelain. Crowns can be tedious for the patient because they require a series of long appointments to complete, however, with our office using the latest CAD/CAM technology (read more in our technology section), we can prepare and deliver crowns on the same day! This saves the patient time, aggravation and stress! Our technology was even featured on CTV news which you can click on the link to watch and get more information about the advantages of this treatment.

Dental Bridges
Dental bridges are viable options for those who have lost teeth due to injury or periodontal disease. A bridge places porcelain teeth where the patient has missing teeth by using the adjacent teeth for support. Bridges require very strong adjacent teeth in order to hold up the forces exerted on the bridge itself, as a result, not every patient is a candidate for a bridge that rests on their natural teeth. In these cases, if implant placement is possible, a bridge can be made that rests on implants instead of natural teeth. It is also important to consider that a bridge requires the adjacent healthy teeth to be shaved down in order to place the bridge over them and so it may not be recommended in every case. Each case is different and the dentist will be able to make recommendations depending on the variables of each specific case.
The benefits of dental bridges include:
- Can help restore your smile
- Give you back the ability to chew and speak properly
- Help to maintain the shape of your face
- Prevent your remaining teeth from shifting out of place
If you would like to restore your smile, contact Ramirez Dentistry. Let us help you get your confidence back.
Post and Core
Post and core dental procedures are a type of crown restoration that is completely painless and does not require anesthesia. Post and core permanent teeth can only be designed for teeth that have previously had a root canal procedure. After a dental examination is conducted, the dentist will design the post and core solution device. The post is cemented into the root canal area and once it is set in place, the core can be added.

Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is required when tooth decay extends into the nerve of the tooth, thereby requiring the infected nerve to be removed. This type of infection may cause severe pain for the patient but it is important to know that not all teeth requiring root canal treatment will cause pain or discomfort. If you notice pain while eating hot and/or cold foods, or while biting down, there is a chance that a root canal is required and a visit to the dentist is recommended. There are a lot of myths surrounding root canal treatment being painful, this is because oftentimes the patient comes into the dental office in pain before receiving the treatment necessary. Root canal treatment actually relieves the patient of pain and is not a painful experience once treatment has begun.
Extractions
At Ramirez Dentistry, one of our main priorities is to preserve your natural teeth through high-quality hygiene and restorative services. However, in some cases, a tooth extraction is the only option. The most common reasons for a tooth extraction are severe decay, advanced periodontal disease, a tooth that is broken beyond repair, and irritated/impacted wisdom teeth. Here are the three types of extractions that we offer:
Simple Extraction - A simple extraction will require a local anesthetic. You will feel a little bit of pressure during the procedure, but we try to make it as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
Surgical Extraction - If your tooth cannot be safely removed using a simple extraction, we will need to perform a surgical extraction. This involves making an incision in the gum to get better access to the tooth.
Wisdom Teeth - We are able to extract wisdom teeth before or after they erupt. If you feel pain in or around your wisdom teeth, they may be impacted and require a surgical extraction. We ensure you are as comfortable as possible when you come into Ramirez Dentistry to get your wisdom teeth extracted.
Dentures
Dentures are prosthetic replacements that are made by your dentist to replace broken or missing teeth, and can be easily taken out and put back into your mouth. There are two types of dentures: complete or partial. When you are getting fitted for dentures, your dentist will examine your mouth, and determine what would be the best for your unique situation. Previously, dentures were made out of porcelain or plastic, but with advancements in technology, they are generally made from hard resin.
Signs that Your May Need Dentures
- You are experiencing tooth pain
- Your gums are bleeding/sore
- It is difficult to eat certain foods (hot/chewy)
If you are still not sure whether you are a good candidate for dentures, contact Ramirez Dentistry. We will perform a full oral examination and determine the best solution for you.
